Wine and Culture Assignment at an Affordable Cost

ANTH 268 – WINE AND CULTURE – FINAL (Take-Home)

You will first write and send me a separate statement (not graded), as explained in class, in which you will give your word of honor that you will not hire a writer to write this paper. Matthew should be in cc.

You will choose three historical events that had a significant impact on wine culture and examine them. These can be positive (that spread wine culture) or negative events (that restricted wine culture). These events can be limited to one country or be more global events.

These events include, but are not limited to: domestication of vitis vinifera, Roman colonization, trade, advent and spread of Christianity, the role of monasteries, prohibitions on alcohol (whatever the source of it), specific migration movements (you will have to tell which one, when, and to where), colonization (mainly, obviously, by Catholic countries), Phylloxera, specific scientific discoveries (invention of the barrel, the discovery that unfertile soil is better for winemaking, etc.), creation and use of appellations, the biodynamic movement, etc.

You must be specific and explain how and why each event impacted wine culture. Explain if each of these three events impacted winemaking, drinking culture, a general appreciation for wine, knowledge of wine, or all of the above. Each event should correspond to a specific section of your paper.

Your paper should be 1,500 words minimum.

You will need to use class lectures, reading assignments, and all relevant class materials. You can NOT use other sources. Your answers should be supported by arguments and clear, specific references to class material (including page number for assigned readings). You therefore need to include a reference page at the end of your paper, containing all the works cited in your paper.

All the course’s readings are available on the class’s Blackboard page.

Guidelines:

Due date:  Wednesday, December 18, 1pm (or earlier).  You will upload your paper on Blackboard. DO NOT SEND YOUR PAPER BY EMAIL. Late papers will NOT be accepted.  Font 12, space 2.  This is worth 25% of your final grade.  Spell-check and proofread your paper.

You must follow university guidelines regarding plagiarism (indicate all your sources with clear, specific references –see below).

You will also write and send me a separate statement (not graded), as explained in class, in which you will swear that you will not hire a writer to write this paper. Matthew should be in cc.

.

You should always answer questions as scholars.  That means that you must be as scientific, logical, methodical, explicit, didactic, and exhaustive as possible.  All your arguments must be substantiated.  You must also:

-avoid general, vague statements

-avoid moral judgments and moralizing statements (no substitute to critical thinking)

-avoid emotional statements

-avoid colloquial expressions

-stay on target and avoid digressions.  Stay on-topic.

Quotes should be between quotation marks, and include the author’s name and page number.  Same thing if you write about/synthesize an idea or an argument from any text (mention the name of the author, place year of publication and the page number).
